How much sun should you have afterall?

Apr 29

Scientists have been telling you to avoid sunbathing and protect ourselves from skin cancer. On the other hand, we should go out more for our body to produce vital Vitamin D. So how much sun is healhty? The healthcare messages are confusing, to say the least. One thing is clear: too little sun exposure can lead to a lack of vitamin D, which is known as the sunshine vitamin because up to 90 per cent of what we need comes from being exposed to sunlight. For a light-skinned person, 30 minutes of full-body exposure to summer sun at noon triggers the release of 20,000 IU of vitamin D into the circulation. That’s the equivalent of 500 micrograms of vitamin D, considerably more than the 25micrograms in high-dose supplements. The rule of thumb among doctors seems to be that you should expose a fifth of your body to the sun for 20 minutes, three or four times a week, without suncream.

Redheads more likely to use tanning beds

Apr 29

Red-haired and freckly people are among the most likely to use sunbeds, it was claimed today. Many people with fair skins resort to the machines as they search in vain for a tan, a survey shows. Yet they are the most at risk of developing skin cancer from the ultraviolet (UV) radiation used in tanning parlours. Nina Goad, from the British Association of Dermatologists, said: ‘People with very pale skin will never tan through UV exposure, they will only ever burn. If you are very pale and you want a tan, you will most likely find self tan products far more effective. In addition, self tan products are the healthiest option for that glowing tan.

The best skin moisturizers - pros and cons

Mar 12

Over the winter, my skin dried out dramatically. To restore the moisture levels and get glowing skin, try some these:

Powdered milk - milk in a bath is an ancient remedy for beautiful skin. Try half a pack of powdered milk next time you  have a long soak.

Baby oil - I love baby oil. It’s a very simple moisturizer giving great results. Either put a few drops in your bath water, or put on skin while you’re still wet to lock in every bit of moisture.

Bio-oil - is supposed to help reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Although it is a great moisturizer, the oil gets really messy. It does seem to take a bit to get into the skin.

Garniers rescue lotion - is great but must be applied regularly.

Dry skin care: Garnier body repair lotion

Dec 07

As the winter arrived, everybody’s turned up their heating. The cold season usually equals very dry skin for lots of people, including me.

One of the best moisturising lotions I have ever encountered is Garnier’s Body Repair restoring moisturiser with maple syrup. Retails at around £4.19 and well worth it.

Garnier’s Nutritionist Daily Moisturiser

May 15

I like this one. After the first application, my skin felt incredibly soft and norished. I’ve had lots of trouble with previous moisturisers I used - burning sensations and redness to be specific.

All in all, I think this is a really good cream for normal and combination skin.

Hydrating The Boobs - Firming Products For Your Breasts

Apr 06

I’m a big sceptic and generally don’t believe that bust firming / lifting gels work very well. One of my major issue I have with them is that these firming and lifting creme’s aren’t very likely to ever live up to people’s expectations and I really hate spending money on something when I could have just used Vaseline or baby oil instead. There is just no way that they will lift sagging breasts that are touching your knees!

Creme’s and Gels

Bust Firming Cream by Spa Energie Vegetable - available at Yves-Rocher.co.uk

lpic_1824_1001_3145 Currently priced at around £9.80

What they say

An immediate toning effect thanks to its fast-penetrating, melting gel cream texture that lightly massages. Day after day, your bust is more defined and firmer. The skin is hydrated*, smoothed and revitalised. (*Hydrates outer layers of the epidermis).

My verdict

I’ve tried this one and have been quite happy with it. It does leave the skin feeling smooth. It supposedly has a lifting or remodelling effect but you’ll hardly find any creme that magically defies gravity and puts your breasts into perfect shape. I’m afraid only surgeons can perform such miracles.

Another one I found on Yves Rocher was the Lifting Buste firmer

IB_15978 Currently priced at £10.50

What they say

Yves Rocher Botanical Laboratories have combined Mangifera Extract, renown for its firming action with the re-hydrating properties of Maple Sap Concentrate and Spa mineral water.

I think

I might actually try this. I haven’t used this product before but in my opinion, the Spa Energie Végétale, is a real good brand.

Elemis Pro Collagen Lifting Treatment for Neck & Bust

neck_Bust-160x140 A whopping £70, you might get it cheap on eBay or if you do a bit of a search.

What they say

A revolutionary Anti-Ageing Treatment that is clinically proven to reduce skin crepiness by up to 33% and increase skin firmness by 17% with a 14% increase in elasticity. A powerful Elemis solution for slackening skin, minimising the signs of ageing for a smoother, firmer, more youthful-looking neck and bust.

I think

This is a bit overpriced. Another product I haven’t tried yet, but whilst searching I’ve come across many reviews which rated this as a rather good product. Worth the money? That is the question.

I’m very eager to try these, Body Resculpt Bust and Bust Up by Biotherm. Having used several other products by the company, I was rather pleased.

biotherm body resculpt bust Currently priced at £29.50 I’m convinced you could find it cheaper online.

What they say - Body Resculpt Bust

A genuine ‘firmness concentrate’ that provides an intense, dual-action treatment:
- An instant tightening effect to tone and firm. The skin’s fibres are tightened and toned thanks to an instant tightening complex for a quick beauty fix (using the power of ceramides and hydrating polymers)
- Firming action to combat the loosening and ageing of the skin around the bust and neck. Skin is enhanced with improved elasticity day after day thanks to Vitamins B5 & E, Pure Extract of Thermal Plankton and an intense firming complex.

I can’t say much to this. I’m planning to trying the Biotherm products based on my experiences with the brand. I’ve also seen some positive reviews.

bust up biotherm  Seen this one for around £21.45

What they say

A bust lifting beauty treatment Instantly restores the elasticity of bust tissues Helps maintain a beautiful bust line Leaves skin thoroughly fresh & toned Apply morning & evening to busts.
