How To: Cheek Contouring

Sep 04

Make-up can truly transform a face, but many women stay clear from blush and cheek products. Noone wants to end up overdoing it and many don’t really know how to go about with contouring the cheeks.

Here’s a few steps to follow to achieve a good look:

  • apply your favorite foundation evenly across your face
  • Choose 2 shades for your cheeks: a pink-toned blush for the apples of your cheeks, and a brown or bronze tone to use for contouring.
  • Using a blusher brush, take a bit of your darker shade onto the tip. Suck your cheeks in by making a “fishy” face, and then carefully sweep the shade into the hollow created. Make sure to sweep upward, toward your ear. This is your contour shade, and it will help create definition in your cheeks.
  • take the Blusher Brush and take a bit of the blush onto the tip. Be sure to gently tap off the excess to avoid blush fallout all over your cheeks. Then smile and sweep the blush in a circular motion over the rounded out area of your cheeks.
  • Take the Face & Body Brush and sweep it over top of both colors, blending them out and making sure there are no harsh edges.

How to keep your Hands looking beautiful

Jul 10

Our hands have to endure a daily dose of stress. If you use your hands a lot without properly caring for them, you will soon discover a rough almost hard surface and dried out skin. Possibly even wrinkled skin.

To avoid that

  • Use glove for tasks like washing dishes. Washing our hands is part of a good hygiene but unnecessary washing, like doing the dishes, can lead to dry and rough hands.
  • If possible, use a moisturizing liquid soap.
  • Moisturize your hands every time you wash them. There are many good formulated creams out there that will sink into the skin within seconds.
  • Hands need sun protection too!

How-To Emma Watson Updo

Jul 08

Emma Watson looked fresh-faced despite the rainy weather at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Wearing a loose updo style, complimented by braids and a red accent, she looked rather chic.

emmagetty.xlarge updo

This seems to be a perfect hairstyle for warm and humid weather.

Here’s how to do the updo:

Start by parting your hair to the side. Next, pull hair back into a ponytail near the occipital bone, leaving out a large chunk from your fringe area and sides.

  • Now, twist and loop the ponytail to form a loose bun. Pin to secure.
  • Next, have some fun. Take sections from the front, criss-crossing them back into the bun. Pin to keep in place. Braid one or two sections of hair towards the back, pinning to secure. Be creative and make your sections both chunky and skinny to create interest to the style.
  • Finish off with a red accessory for a punch of color

5 tips for a glowing self tan

Jul 07

Summer has come and sporting a tan is more fashionable than ever, sunburn and skin damage however isn’t. In order to not damage your skin, many people opt for a self tan. This has been made incredibly popular with so many self tanning products readily available to buy.

To prepare your skin for a nice self tan

  • Exfoliate – at least a day before application.
  • Be sure to protect your hairline if you are using a self tanner on your face. You don’t want discoloured hair.
  • Wearing gloves prevents tan palms. Make sure though you apply tanner on the back of your hands.
  • Newbies go for lotions rather than sprays! Tanning sprays can be tricky to get right and not streaky, the easiest way is to start off with a tanning lotion.
  • Cover up mistakes: Using a cotton ball, apply nail polish remover or a strong, alcohol-based toner to the affected areas.

Get Gorgeous Summer Feet

May 08

Summer is almost here and it’s time to drop the clothes and heavy footwear for floaty and airy summer fashion.

An important part of getting ready for the hot season is preparing your feet to look good in sandals.

Got a  new gorgeous pair of strappy sandals? Here’s how you get your feet up to scratch:

To get all the filth and dead skin off, start with a long, warm soak. For an extra kick, add some essential oil, such as peppermint or lavender.  Soak for at least 15 minutes.

After the skin has softened, it’s time for scrubbing. If you have a large amount of skin to come off, opt for a foot file or the Peg Egg. If you have kept your skin fairly skin, a simple foot scrub will do.

Finally, after taking off a lot of old skin, your feet will thank you for some nourishment. Use a foot moisturizing lotion for best results but you may also opt for any good moisturizing option, Vaseline or nivea is fantastic too. Slather on a big layer of cream and put on socks to help the cream being absorbed.

Maintaining beautiful feet can be rewarding, especially when you have super soft, glowing skin to show off.

Moroccan Rose make up tutorial

Another make up tutorial by The Body Shop. If you haven’t already, make sure you subscribe to their blog. Unlike many other companies, the Body Shop does indeed publish useful and interesting content.

This is a great look for spring, fairly simple to do and you may be able to substitute some of colours or mix and match a bit:

FACE

    * Start with an even base by using a Professional Makeup Sponge to blend Flawless Skin Protecting Foundation SPF 25. Just because the Spring rays are gentle, doesn’t mean the UV rays are any easier on your skin.

    * Use a small Lipstick/Concealer Brush to apply concealer to your trouble spots.

    * Use the larger Face & Body Brush to gently dust on Roseflower Blush Shade 01:Pink to the apples of the cheeks (the part that rounds out when you smile).

EYES

    * Use our Eyeshadow Brush to apply Roseflower Eyes Shade 01: Sunshine Gold, starting at the inner corner of the eye, and then blending over the lid in an upward sweeping motion.

    * Dampen the Smudger Brush just slightly and line the lower lashes with Roseflower Eyes Shade 01: Sunshine Gold (link).

    * Add a touch of Roseflower Eyes Shade 02: Mint Green to the Smudger Brush and shade the area just underneath the brow bone.

    * Line the upper lid with Liquid Eyeliner Shade 01: Black to make the shadow define the eyes even more.

    * Finish off with a swipe of Divide & Multiply Mascara Shade 01: Black.

LIPS

    * Smooth on a few layers of Roseflower Lips Shade 01: Soft Pink, and then dab a bit of Roseflower Lips Shade 03: Deep Pink onto the center of the lower lip. This little trick makes lips appear more full and luscious.
