Scientists to resurrect mammoth?

Jan 18

What sounds like Jurassic Park could soon become reality.  Japanese scientists have apparently embarked on an ambitious project to revive the woolly mammoths.

Scientists have obtained samples of hair frozen in the siberian ice for thousands of years and managed to piece together the mammoth’s genetic code. Another option would be taking skin or tissue samples from a carcass already in a research collection.

Trending: British Career Women Converting to Islam

Oct 27

I don’t believe in religion, full stop. Whether it’s Islam or Christianity, I find them equally vile. However, the DailyMail ran an interesting article on modern British career women converting to Islam. Granted, we’ve seen several white women with no association to the religion converting in recent years and then parading themselves in headgear on television.

Head over to their website to read the full article. Amongst recent outings of converts: Cheri Blair’s half sister.

Deep fried 500 calorie Pretzel anyone?

Aug 31

I think most people will agree that deep fried foods are generally unhealthy. Yet we keep coming back for more and think of ever more bizarre foods to deep-fry.

The latest creation: a Pretzel. A cafe in Brooklyn USA serves these monstrous artery clogger along with many other deep-fried foods.

Bret Michaels for Pantene? You got to be kidding!

Apr 15

So Pantene recently held a press conference with Bret Michaels, you know the washed up “Rock of Love” guy. They announced a new “reality star”-themed contest to celebrate Pantene’s rebranding. The winner will be in their commercial and invited to one of Bret’s concerts and onto the Rock of Love bus.

Who wants to be a Mermaid?

Sep 08

Yahoo answers have become somewhat of a cult. Not necessarily for all the large amount of smart answers, but rather for answers like these:

A user wants to know if anyone knows of a “spell to turn into a mermaid”. If that’s not strange enough, read through the answer. It’s hard to tell whether they actually took this seriously or being sarcastic and we’ll hope for the user who posted the question that they were just messing around. Otherwise this could have resulted in a bizarre suicide.

Spoof "computer tan" website set up to support skin cancer charity

Apr 02

April Fool’s Day has passed but I couldn’t help but check out the spoof tan website Computertan.com.

The site claims to offer Internet users a free year-round tan delivered through their computer screens.

You don’t have to a whiz to realise that this pretty obviously a fake.

The site was actually set up two months ago to promote the work of skin cancer charity.

When clicking to access a “free-five-minute tan trial”, bars from a sun bed appear with a message warning users “Don’t be fooled – UV Exposure Can Kill”.

What would happen if we humans ate cat food?

Jan 13

Have you ever wondered about what would happen if we ate cat food? If you have cats you sure have found yourself wondering what would happen to you if you tried a bit of kitty’s lunch…

LiveScience.com has an interesting article on that subject. Apparently, it wouldn’t kill you as pet food is made from leftovers such as organs, blood and other bits and trims. Basically food that is indigestible but pretty much harmless nonetheless.

A whole lot of pet foods also contain vegetables, grains, rice and added vitamins.

on March 16, 2007, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a major recall on some “cuts and gravy” style of canned pet food that caused rapid kidney failure and death in hundreds and possibly thousands of animals. The FDA later recalled more animal edibles, tracing the problem back to wheat gluten, a component used to thicken pet foods.

Scientists who tested the pet meals in question say an ingredient called melamine (a fire retardant and plastic-producing chemical) is to blame for the deaths.

Even though it seems like the worst that could happen is an upset stomach, the safest option still is to stick to human food.

UK Eurovision Song Contest Entry

Mar 06

I’ve always wondered if there’s an unwritten rule about the Eurovision song contest stating that each and every contestant has to be absolute sh*t… I don’t get the Eurovision at all…and I certainly couldn’t be bothered to watch it.

Anyway, this year’s UK entry is Andy Abraham, which actually isn’t all that Eurovision-ish horrific compared to Ireland’s competitor: Dustin the turkey! Must be a joke? Nah, they’re actually serious…I’d rather vote for a real live turkey.
